trance music is one of the most popular forms of electronic music. From its origins in the early 80’s as experimental music to its giving birth to several sub-genres in the late 90’s it has come a really long way. During the course of this really long journey, it has managed to attract fans of several different backgrounds. The supposed consciousness altering effect of trance music can be said to be one of the reasons for its popularity. People are drawn to music that affects them at an internal level and evokes a visceral feeling and trance music provides that.
trance DJs use sequencers to synthesize music in a tempo that is faster than house music but with more melodic overtones. The percussive elements are added as transitions or build ups and climaxes with snare rolls – successive equally spaced drum beats that act as a lead in to the build ups. trance video commonly has a tempo of 130 to 160 beats per minute. They don’t usually have vocals and it is up to the trance DJ to make sure the melody is captivating. Some trance tracks use a single melody called the hook melody that runs through the entire length of the song.
